3rd day, Jyly, 9th : Fort Worth, an unforgettable day with Kathryn and Robert

IMG_3661-1

If you knew how we were well received by Kathryn! Yet, we do know each other only through the Internet and mail, we sell in the same scrapbooking shop (she is much better known than me by far !! And much more talented!). She received us with Robert, her husband, in their huge house in Fort Worth, as if we were part of her family! She had cooked (a pasta meal! I love pasta!) And a dessert that we loved (especially Jean-Pierre!), a cake with Amaretto!

After dinner, Robert took Léa and Jean-Pierre in the area residents private pool. Meanwhile, Kathryn and I talked about "business": Photoshop, photography, scrapbooking ...

The next day we left for the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, one of the two places in the United States which are printed banknotes! NO pictures because no right ... Too bad but you can go to their website (no photos anymore but ...): http://www.moneyfactory.gov/tours/fortworthtxtours.html

Then we went to see Kathryn’s new granddaughter, Lucy, barely a week, and her parents! Adorable! Then to the Stockyards, the cattle market, the temple of the Texan cowboys! We did the tour with Joel, a incredible retired man, which supported very well 40C in jeans and shirt! And at evening, Kathryn and Robert offered us dinner at an EXCELLENT Mexican restaurant, even Lea ate !! She has since become a fan of tortillas! It must be said that they were making them, on the spot in front of us!

And the night, nasty surprise when returning to the pool, our rental car was flat: it was that "little light" on the dash! Robert tried to repair it with a bomb, but it leaked everywhere, so he took us to the pool while he went in and buy some that we generously donated two ahead. He also called the rental company and they offered to exchange the car the next day. Léa and JP have so much fun with the waterguns that Kathryn offered them generously! And we played SEQUENCE, a super strategy board game, played with cards and tokens (which does not exist in France). It was REALLY a wonderful day!

Really, I'm waiting for the day when Kathryn and Robert decide to visit us in France to try to give them back all what they have generously provided by warmth and generosity!

Our USA trip : 2nd day (07/08) : DALLAS

After a Mexican meal purchased at the gas station near the motel and a proper night in our little Motel6, we got up a bit early because of time zone and we started to do a ride in Dallas. Thanks to GPS, we did not get lost (or so little!), on the road, we took a breakfast in the first McDonald met (Big Breakfast with Hot Cakes (= spicy and flat sausages) + scrambled eggs + hashbrown (= potatoes rapped and fried) + "biscuits" (= English muffin) and hot cakes (= puffed pancakes) and coffee for JP and I and just Hot Cakes and orange juice for Lea. Surprised by the price! Only 7 dollars (about 5 € 20!) and also 1090 calories announced, i.e. more than half the calories recommended for an entire day!

In any case, we had enough for the day!

What surprised us as well is the length of the line of cars that were queuing to the "drive thru" and the amount of people eating their breakfast in their car!

We are closer to our goal, the Perrot Museum, that my friend Kathryn recommended to us! It really is worth it! Not only the architecture is beautiful, but the content is really interesting. We spent 7 hours, and even, without going to see movies in 3D! Towards the end of the day, we were almost the last ones... Lea ate a tiny plate of pasta with cheese during the day. When we left the museum at around 5:00 PM, it was still 100 ° F (about 38 ° C) ... Then we realized it was around that time that the temperature peaks every day is here (not around 12.00 to 15.00). Fortunately the car was parked under the highway bridge near the museum, but the aircon worked thoroughly.

We went to Fort Worth, through the construction of I-35! so it took us over an hour!

And here we are with Kathryn!

Big Breakfast with Hot Cakes…. 1090 calories !

Our USA trip (July 2014) : 1st day (7th of July), PARIS-DALLAS

We took off from Paris Orly à 11h55 AM local time (GMT+2:00) to London Heathrow first, then Dallas ; landing scheduled the same day at 3:50 CDT (GMT-7:00). Apart a team of 9 or 10 Czech guys, Lacrosse players (yes it is a sport!) who had a drinking contest (drink and alcohol are free on British Airways!) and a chatter contest (non-stop (increasingly) hard for 9am!) and so, therefore, that kept us awake, despite our requests to tone it down, patient requests to start, but after 8 hours, I cracked! ...) the trip went well. We arrived completely exhausted in Dallas, and scheduled shopping have turned into food-sleep-pronto-presto. We did not really pay attention to the yellow light on the dashboard of our rental Kia Forte (or or to the line on the rental warning us that the class of the car was superior than what we asked for and we would pay "can be-probably "extra! Too punctured ...
